This card was made in honor of one of my co-workers. This is pretty much how she looks at work. She even wears fingerless mittens, sweater, and a scarf INSIDE the office!!! One of the things she liked about the card was how everything matched…and she asked how I did that. Well, we papercrafters know THAT secret. Buy a pad or a collection - all the matchy matchy is done for you. The patterned papers I pieced this image with all came from the same collection, Bella Rose retired from SU! a year or so ago. I bought tons of it and kept some scraps of matching cardstock with it and this card literally came together in about an hour, start to finish.

I also used my beloved Copics to add shading to the patterned papers. The background around the swathed gal was colored with Copic markers to paper, not using an airbrush system. The full view colors look better than the close-up. I might do okay with my markers but I definitely need to improve on my non-existent photography skills.

It was her 9th anniversary today and so even though the inside stamped sentiment isn’t strictly an anniversary sentiment, I handwrote my own little note to her (not shown) and called it done.
Thanks for stopping by!

This month it is my honor to be guest designer for the weekly December CAS Challenges over at The Outlawz. The Outlawz is a fabulous ning community with lots of challenges, inspiration, and some of the monthly prize sponsors include Oozak, SCACD, and Paper Temptress. The Outlawz have a different challenge every day - and the Sunday challenge is CAS (Clean and Simple). Our ‘assignment’ for this first Sunday was to create a CAS project with a white cardbase (our snow) and pop dots to raise an element (our marshmallows). As soon as I saw the words of that challenge, I had to laugh because I had just received my MFT Who’s That Girl Gets Cozy With Cocoa stamp set complete with a mug of hot cocoa topped with marshmallows! So…I’ve got my white card base dry embossed with the Cuttlebug folder Snow Dots (I couldn’t decide to dry emboss or leave plain but I went with the dry embossing); the focal image is popped up onto the Scor-bugged white piece. The sentiment is set off by scored lines. (I lightly scored them on the front side and then flipped over the card front so I could do stronger score lines from the back side.) I used the sentiment words as my color inspiration lol. Yep, I’m nothing if not literal.
My favorite parts to this card are the swirls in the cocoa and the marshmallows that are a little 3D with the liquid pearls.

The current CAS (Clean and Simple) challenge at The Outlawz social network is a monochromatic holiday card. Halloween is a holiday and I chose hues of purple for my card. Purple, orange, and green are colors I associate with Halloween. And of course spooky stuff like spiders and mummies. You can’t say this mummy is spooky though, even my 7yo dgd knows this mummy is a ‘girl’ lol.
I stamped the spider web as a background design on the light purple cardstock and layered that to the dark purple cardstock. The stamped image was matted to a dark purple piece that had been dry embossed. I was going to put the sentiment on the strip down below, but I liked the metallic bling (and if you squint they m-i-g-h-t look purple too). Now one of the guidelines for the CAS challenge is to make sure the card could be mass produceable. I am the QUEEN of mass production. I’ve got 20 of these in progress.

Copics: Mummy wrappings (BV0000, C1, C3); Wall (V12, V15, V17); Floor (BV12, BV15, BV17)

So the first challenge was to create a clean and simple card using something from your stash that is ‘haunting’ you. Patterned paper is my personal ‘haunt’ and I pulled out a patterned paper pad from Stampin’ Up! and some kraft cardstock to answer the challenge. Pumpkin pie, kraft, black, and white. Lots of white space to rest the eyes (and I LOVE how the dots on the patterned paper match the dots in the flower center - which is an Our Craft Lounge stamp set named Pretty Petals and from where I got this card design). The sentiment is from The Angel Company.
Remember I usually make most of my cards appropriate to the OWH rules, so I don’t have dimensional embellishments on this card. Gotta have a lined envelope though, and by strategic cutting of one 12×12 sheet, I was able to get 10 pieces for envelope liners, 10 strips of paper for cardfronts, and have 1 unused 5 1/2 x 4 inch leftover. Oh yes, this will definitely go towards reducing my haunting paper stash.

I lucked onto this new social network when I was on the oozak.com website ordering some Copic supplies. A chance to win a $100 gift certificate for Oozak? Or $100 from SCACD (Susana’s Custom Art and Card Design)? An online Copic class from Suzanne Dean? Oh yes, count me in. The challenges start at 12:01am October 3 and run through 11:59pm October 9. Click on the party flyer to sign in or register - and let the games begin!
