Dry embossed vellum pictorial tutorial

Use versamark ink to stamp the image onto vellum paper (not vellum cardstock).

Use a fine-tipped stylus to gently trace the versamark lines (yes, trace onto the WET versamark, don’t wait for it to dry).

Flip over the vellum to see what the dry embossed image looks with only one tracing.

For optimum embossed results, it is better to gently trace the versamark lines two or three times. Notice on this photo the lines are definitely more defined.

And here is what it looks like on the front with a double tracing. (Not shown is at this point, I started coloring my images on the same side as the wet versamark.)

And here is what the 1st (single) tracing looks like compared with the 2nd (doubled) tracing.

Another look for dry embossed vellum is to stamp the image in a colored ink (on the front OR the back of the vellum), and then use the fatter tip of the stylus (on the back of the vellum) to gently rub the open areas of the stamped image. This photo shows what that technique looks like from the front.

This is a comparison of all three versions, from right to left, 1st tracing, 2nd tracing, and filled in.
