The easel style of card is a fancy fold. The first time I saw it used was in August 2009 on Splitcoast Stampers, but Penny Wessenhauer has a marvelous PDF instructional handout here. Scroll through the various samples to the 4×4 Easel Card Template diagram. My card is a landscape A2 sized card but the directions to create and adhere the pieces are the same as in Penny’s template diagram. (Her directions will create three 4×4 easel cards from one 12×12 piece of cardstock.) My version uses three sheets of 8.5 x 11 cardstock to create four A2 easel cards. One sheet is cut into quarters and that will be the four top pieces. The other two sheets are cut in half at the 5.5 mark on the 11-inch side, creating four cardbases of 5.5×8.5. Score these four cardbases at 2.125 and 4.25. Decorate the top piece and the inside of the cardbase. To adhere the top piece to the cardbase, close the cardbase as normal and apply adhesive to the front bottom half (from the 2.125 scoreline to the open edge, not the fold edge). This card did not use a ribbon, but if it was desired, the ribbon should be centered now on that front bottom half. Next, position the decorated top piece fully on the cardbase (it will only be adhered to the front bottom half). Finally, if a ribbon had been adhered between the cardbase and top piece, wrap the ribbon around the top piece.
This specific color combo and design were from Heather Scott’s christmas cd. I added sponging, snowflakes, and the vintage script background to everything. Love the color combo of Cote d’Azure, Chartreuse, and Charcoal.

In this photo the inside greeting is adhered flat to the cardbase (on my subsequent cards, I did eventually pop up the greeting onto foam dots for the easel ‘rest’ and eliminated the buttons).
